The Singing Dragon Towari Jinashi Shakuhachi
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uE2k7voK-w
In this video, I review a stunning 1.9 jinashi shakuhachi I recently acquired at auction. Bearing the poetic gold makie name Meiryu 鳴龍—“Crying” or “Singing Dragon”—this flute is full of character, both visually and sonically.
I walk through the repairs it needs, including new lacquer work on the utaguchi and a refit of the middle joint. Despite the wear, Ryumei has a powerful, resonant tone and is tuned in the old towari style—giving it a hauntingly beautiful voice unlike modern flutes.
Join me as I explore its sound, construction, and what makes this instrument truly special. Features: 1.9 Jinashi shakuhachi Old-style Towari tuning Gold Makie inscription “Ryumei” (龍鳴)
This comes with the original box from the makie artist. It also has these absolutely stunning silver inserts on all of the holes.
