New Album Release: Tairyu Honkyoku, Volume I

Around the world, the shakuhachi is famed for its solo repertoire known as honkyoku. The techniques and melodies of these “original pieces” inform all of my playing, and serve as a starting vocabulary for my own compositions. In short, they are the soul of shakuhachi, and the spine of my practice.

What that in mind, I’m excited to announce the release of my new CD, "Tairyu Honkyoku, Volume I." It features 10 classic honkyoku pieces, engineered by the talented Duane Levi from Shalestone Music. Using a combination of analog and digital techniques, each piece was recorded in a single take on my beloved 3.0, custom made for me by Yozan Hikichi. The result is ten tracks that capture the essence and depth of traditional shakuhachi music. I hope you enjoy listening to them as much as I enjoyed playing them for you!
